3 Creative Ways to Use Layering Stamps with Altenew
From bold silhouettes to heat embossed shine, here’s how to stretch your stamps and create clean, modern cards.
Layering stamps are most often used to add color and detail, but there are so many ways to use them creatively! In today’s video, I’m sharing three fun techniques using the new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Cozy Spaces from Altenew. This all-in-one kit includes stamps, stencils, dies, and an embossing folder—perfect for building warm and inviting scenes with modern flair.
Each of the three cards in this video features a different approach to layering stamps:
- Silhouette Stamping: Use just the final layer for a bold, modern silhouette—no lining up required!
- Heat Embossing: Add texture and shine by embossing one or more layers.
- Traditional Color Layering: Stamp each layer in different ink shades to build depth and realism in your images.
Be sure to watch the full video tutorial! I walk you through each card from start to finish and share helpful tips for clean stamping, ink choices, and scene building.

Altenew Educator Certification Program
As some of you know, I am in the process of working towards my Altenew Educator Certification. These cards were inspired by the techniques I learned in the All About Layering 5 class. Lydia is a fantastic instructor and I highly recommend her class.
Card One: Silhouette Stamping

This card uses the largest solid layer of one of the plant images for a clean black silhouette. I paired it with a soft stenciled background and popped up a die cut chair to create a simple but bold focal point. This is a great option when you want a quick, graphic look without worrying about perfect alignment.
Card 2: Heat Embossed Layering

For this design, I heat embossed several layers of the leaves using clear embossing powder. A bright orange chair and fun planter help balance the shine and add some playful color. Heat embossing gives your layered stamps a whole new level of texture and shine!
Card 3: Traditional Color Layering

This one’s all about classic layering. I used different ink shades to stamp each layer of the plant image, then built a cozy little scene with a die cut chair, planter, and lamp. I love how easy it is to mix and match elements from the kit to create a full room vibe on a card front.
Quick Tips for Layering Success
- Try silhouette stamping when you want a bold, graphic look without fussing with alignment.
- Use heat embossing to highlight specific details and add eye-catching shine.
- Build up your images from light to dark for beautifully blended layered results.
