How to Make Translucent Vellum Balloons with Alcohol Markers
Use vellum and alcohol markers to create soft, translucent die-cut balloons that look surprisingly realistic.
Hey crafty friends! Colored cardstock works beautifully for balloons, but vellum gives them something extra. For this birthday card, I used the Lovely Layers: Porch Goose from Honey Bee Stamps along with the coordinating Porch Goose Closet: Spring dies to create a sweet goose surrounded by translucent vellum balloons. The trick is simple: cut the balloons from vellum, then color them with alcohol markers so light can still pass through.

I love how these translucent vellum balloons turned out because the technique is so simple, but the effect feels completely different from ordinary cardstock. If you have vellum and alcohol markers in your stash, try this with your next birthday card. It is an easy way to make die-cut balloons feel lighter, softer, and much more realistic.
Have you ever colored vellum with alcohol markers? I’d love to know what other die cuts you think would look great with this translucent effect.
