Adorable Simon Hurley Halloween Pets Cards
Hi crafty friends! The new Simon Hurley Halloween Pets are perfect for cute Halloween cards with just the right amount of spooky. For these two designs, I used the same ink blending formula with completely different color combinations, creating a bright glow in the center that fades into deep black around the edges.
The colorful backgrounds do most of the heavy lifting on these cards. A mix of splatter adds texture and a starry, slightly magical feel, while a little Glossy Accents gives the pumpkins just enough shine to stand out.

Purple Halloween Dog Card
For the first card, I started my ink blending with Wilted Violet in the center of the panel. I blended that outward into Chipped Sapphire, keeping the purple visible in the middle so the background would have a bright glow behind the images. I finished the blend with Black Soot around the outer edges, working it into the Chipped Sapphire to create a smooth transition from the colorful center to the nearly black border.
Once the ink blending was finished, I added several layers of splatter to give the background more movement and texture. I splattered the panel with Iridescent Shimmer Mist, water, and White Acrylic Spray. The combination creates a mix of subtle shimmer, oxidized water spots, and bright white droplets that really stand out against the dark background.
I colored the two dogs from Simon Hurley Halloween Pets in their ghost costumes and arranged them together in the center of the card. The warm oranges and yellows are a fun contrast against the cool purple and blue background. After adding the Happy Howl-o-ween sentiment, I applied Glossy Accents to the pumpkin pail for a shiny, dimensional detail. A scattering of sequins finished off the design.
Green Halloween Cat Card
For the cat card, I repeated the same three-color ink blending technique but changed the color combination completely. This time, I started with Twisted Citron in the center, then blended it outward into Mowed Lawn. I finished the edges with Black Soot, creating that same dramatic fade from a vivid glowing center into deep black.
I used the same combination of Iridescent Shimmer Mist, water, and White Acrylic Spray for the splatter. Repeating those details helps tie the two cards together even though the color palettes are very different. I especially love how the white and iridescent splatter looks over the green and black background.
The black cat tucked inside the jack-o-lantern makes such a fun focal point against all of that glowing green. I colored the pumpkin in rich orange tones, added the Have a Purr-fectly Spooky Halloween sentiment underneath, and then covered the pumpkin with Glossy Accents. The shine gives it extra dimension and helps the orange pumpkin pop even more against the darker background.
Using the same basic technique on both cards made it easy to create a coordinating pair while still giving each design its own personality. With Simon Hurley Halloween Pets, simply switching the colors in your ink blend can take the background from moody purple and blue to bright, almost radioactive green. Add a few different types of splatter and one glossy detail, and you have plenty of texture without adding a lot of extra elements.
