Shine On Card Ideas with Simon Says Stamp

Three clean and colorful card ideas featuring bright ink blending, bold die cuts, and easy ways to add dimension.

Hi crafty friends! Today I’m sharing three cards featuring the new Shine On release from Simon Says Stamp. I played with soft ink blended scenes, bold blue and purple florals, and a graphic die cut background with a vellum sentiment wrap. Each card has a totally different feel, but they all use clean layouts, bright color, and a few simple details to make the designs shine.

Card One: You’re So Clever Fox Card

Simon Says Stamp Clever Fox

For the first card, I created a sweet little scene with the fox as the focal point. I started by stamping the fox in the center of the card, then used the Clever Fox stencils to color him in. I love how stencils make coloring so easy! Next, I masked off the sweet little fox and a wide horizontal area. I ink blended blue ink at the top and green ink at the bottom to create a simple sky-and-grass background. Keeping the ink blending contained to one strip is such an easy way to add color while still leaving lots of clean white space.

Once the background was finished, I added white floral die cuts from the Dancing Meadows cover plate on both sides. I love how the white florals add texture and movement without competing with the bright orange fox. They also soften the edges of the scene and make the little character feel grounded.

I stamped the sentiment ā€œYou’re so cleverā€ directly under the fox in crisp black ink. A few tiny blue sequins in the flower centers and a dot of Glossy Accents on the nose add a little sparkle and shine. This design would be such a cute encouragement card, teacher card, or just-because note.

Card Two: Blue and Purple Floral Two Ways

For the second project, I used the same Dancing Meadows cover plate in two different ways. I love doing this when I already have a product out on my desk because it lets me stretch the design and get a completely different look with just a few changes.

For the first version, I created a rich blue and purple ink blended background, then die cut the panel with the cover plate. I layered the negative background over a white piece of cardstock that I embossed with the Dotty Contour embossing folder. The white florals really pop against the saturated background, and the tiny dot details add beautiful texture. I added a bold black sentiment strip that reads ā€œWe’re meant to be friendsā€ and scattered blue gems throughout the flowers for extra shine.

For the second version, I flipped the idea and kept the background white. Instead of white florals, I inlaid the beautiful blue and purple florals from my first panel. This gives the card a softer, more open look while still using the same overall color story. I finished it with a bold black ā€œLove youā€ sentiment strip and more gems in the flower centers.

These two cards are a great reminder that you can get a lot of mileage from one design. Try changing the background color, flipping from white die cuts to ink blended pieces, or swapping the sentiment to make the card work for a completely different occasion.

Card Three: Graphic Fabulous Birthday Card

Simon Says Stamp Embossed Squovals

For the final card, I went bold and graphic with a repeating die cut background. I used shades of teal, aqua, light blue, and navy with the Embossed Squovals dies to create a modern pattern across the card front. The layered shapes have subtle embossed line details, which give the design texture without needing a lot of extra embellishment.

After arranging the pieces on a white card base, I heat embossed a sentiment from the Old Broad Squad stamps in white on vellum. The white embossing keeps everything bright and clean, and the large script word adds a fun, celebratory feel.

I wrapped the heat embossed strip of vellum across the center. Vellum is perfect for busy backgrounds because it softens the pattern just enough to make room for a sentiment without covering up all the work underneath. Then I finished the card with a few coordinating gems for shine. This one would be perfect for a birthday card, especially if you want something playful, modern, and a little unexpected.

These cards were so much fun to make, and I love how different each one feels. Whether you’re in the mood for a cute critter scene, a bold floral background, or a clean graphic design, the Shine On release has lots of ways to play.
